Most motorsports vehicles today use Lexan windshields, which are much safer than stock glass and prevent objects from coming through the windshield, a great advantage over traditional glass. Lexan, however unbreakable, can nick and pit easily, which makes the windshield difficult to clean, and creates a white haze or glare that can obscure a driver's vision. After a few hundred miles, the windshield can be nearly impossible to see through. At the end of longer events, the windshield most likely needs to be replaced.
